A Lister@Flight Experience

Look who became a pilot for a day!

” A Lister Theam Soon and his wife Soo Rei flanked by owners of Flight Experience Captain Michael Caston and his wife Joanna Caston”

Theam Soon’s lovely wife Soo Rei wrote to nominate her hubby who takes especially good care of his expecting wife by doing all the chores and who sacrifices hanging out with the guys who fly their electronic planes over the weekends,  in his effort to save up for their couple’s first child.

Theam Soon has always loved aviation. In fact he was bitterly disappointed when his application to use a real plane to propose to his wife was turned down, so he turned to the next best thing – a cable car!

A-Lister whisked Theam Soon and his wife Soo Rei to “Flight Experience” where together with co-owner and real pilot Michael Caston, Theam Soon took off on his maiden flight.

Why is Flight Experience an A-List experience? Producer Michelle Martin says...

The cockpit that you step into at Flight Experience is an exact replica of the cockpit of a jet airliner, down to the last dial and switch. Step into the tight cockpit and you are faced with a myriad of tasks to do and screens to monitor. But the dizzying tasks are made easier by the gentle guidance of an actual trained pilot next to you. (Without which I would have been in trouble, seeing as how I was getting nervous about doing up my seatbelt.)

I loved every minute at Flight Experience. After all, this is as close as any of us are going to get to a real deal! The replica cockpit is amazingly detailed. This is what pilots use to train on.

The fun of Flight Experience is realising that you are walking through the very same steps an actual pilot faces. Look out the window and you come face to face with a virtual scene of your chosen flight route which changes in real time; whether you are taking-off, when landing and when piloting the skies. You can choose to fly anywhere in the world.

The bottomline is there is no game that can come close to what Flight Experience serves up. And the best part is anyone can do this.  I know, because I did!

A-lister@ Kim Robinson Salon: The Hair Makeover on 19 Dec 09

We received the highest number of emails ever for this episode which featured an A-list hair makeover by highly sought after stylist and icon Kim Robinson himself.

13-year-old Kevin Maedomari’s e-mail in which he hoped to surprise his mother Teresa with an A-list hair makeover for his mother stood out from the pack with its honest and earnest sentiments.

Kevin dashed off the email while having a tiff with his mum but wrote so convincingly of his love for his mother and how he hoped to make up for the disagreements they had been having that he won our hearts and swept the spot in this month’s episode.

At 7 pm on the 19th of December, Teresa, Kevin, Aki, Kevin’s sister and Hideki, Kevin’s dad stepped into the ultra luxurious Kim Robinson salon at Ngee Ann City into one of 8 private VIP suite’s to meet Kim Robinson himself.

Although he had just flown into Singapore the night before and had been on his feet from 8.30 am in the morning, the ever gracious Kim Robinson received them warmly, telling Kevin he was not sure he could make Teresa look any better because “ you have one of the most beautiful mum’s in the world.”

High praise indeed from the man who has worked with Gong Li, Twiggy and Linda Evangelista!

So what happened after the makeover?

Kevin says his mum loves her new hairdo, Teresa said the whole experience was “really wonderful” and Aki who had her hair curled was reluctant to wash it the day after for fear she would lose her new beautiful locks.

We thank Kim Robinson and all staff at Kim Robinson Salon for a delightful and very special Christmas edition of A-lister.

SO WHO WALKED AWAY WITH PINK CHAMPAGNE AND CAVIAR DREAMS?

The A-list Manicure: Polished Hand Foot + Spa

Producer Michelle Martin on why Polished makes the A-list

‘You step into an intimate all-white setting to embark on the signature treatment at Polished Hand Foot and Spa “the champagne wishes treatment”.

The layered moisturising treat is infused with pure essential oils, fruit acids from pink cabernet grapes and luxury ingredients like caviar extracts. The potions and lotions smell good enough to eat. Owner Jamie Yip assured us the scrub was free from preservatives and we could take a bite if we wanted!’

(Jamie Yip, owner of Polished Hand Foot + Spa)

This treat is special not only because of its luxury ingredients but because this nail spa is “hell bent on hygiene”.

They use a silver ion disinfectant that annihilates 99.99 % of germs and an autoclave ( a tool Doctors and Dentists use) to sterilize their tools.

When Jamie tells us about the amount of recycling that can go on at some salons (did you know that the pumice stone to scrub your feet is often encrusted with the dead skin from loads of other feet?), we cringe and are thankful to see our pumice stones come individually wrapped and will be disposed after one-time use.

Polished provides a heavenly spa experience for hands and nails, and it’s nice to know that even behind the scenes, impeccable standards are in place to ensure the spotless spa lives up to its name.

November’s
A-lister Mariel Mok.

Mariel came to our attention because her friend Elizabeth Cheong wrote to “A-lister” saying

I would like to think that I deserve this lovely luxurious experience but my Mariel Mok deserves it even more!

She is a passionate chef and she has always opens her home to friends and whips up lovely meals. The most recent is when a friend of ours was diagnosed with cancer and going through chemo, she volunteered to whip up healthy gourmet meals and delivered it to her house every week. Not just enough for her but for her mother and father as well...Four course meal at that! What a blessing she is....I think it's her turn to be pampered!”

We like celebrating friendship here at A-lister, so Mariel was picked for Polished Hand Foot+Spa’s decadent Champagne wishes treat.

SO WHO WALKED AWAY WITH A CHANCE

TO DINE IN THE SKIES ON THE

SINGAPORE FLYER?

Meet Mr and Mrs October

Thoughtful husband Arthur wrote to “A-lister” saying he and his wife Casey really needed a romantic time-out  from the rush of work and the responsibilities of being parents to two beautiful young children.

Here's Arthur and Casey moments before they took off for a three-course meal on the Singapore Flyer.

They were ravenous, but were kind enough to pause for a photo with A-lister producer Michelle Martin at the VIP lounge of the Singapore Flyer.

So did the A-lister’s enjoy SkyDining@Singapore Flyer?

Arthur “It was really lovely. It was a clear day, the view was good and the food was good. People were staring at our capsule because there were just the two of us in it! That was fun!”
