Forty passengers were injured when an American Airlines jet overran the runway and broke apart at Kingston's international airport in Jamaica.
Information Minister Daryl Vaz said there were no reports of fatalities.
The plane, carrying 148 passengers and six crew members, was en route from Miami to Kingston.
According to local media, the Boeing 737 plane broke into three pieces after landing in heavy rain at Kingston's Norman Manley International Airport last night.
A passenger said the plane landed normally, but failed to come to a stop.
The airline would not speculate as to any possible cause of the incident.
