Companies here should continue to explore ways to improve the sustainability of their operations.
Minister for Environment and Water Resources, Yaacob Ibrahim, made this point at the launch of the Sustainable Manufacturing Centre, or
SMC under SIMTech.
He said that over the next five years, SIMTech will be spending some 10 million dollars in developing sustainable manufacturing technologies.
Together with the Workforce Development Agency, it has also developed Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Manufacturing.
Dr Yaacob said, the establishment of a one-stop centre is not only timely, but the way to go.
Over the past 16 years, SIMTech has been assisting the local manufacturing sector in upgrading technology capabilities and improving competitiveness.
And since 2007, it has been helping local industries become more environmentally sustainable in the course of their business.
These efforts are in line with the government's blueprint for a sustainable Singapore launched in April.
It maps out Singapore's strategies for sustainable development.
