Three police officers were hauled to court today for various offences.

35-year old Elvilin Tay Sheo Tang was charged with corruptly giving gratification amounting to 250 dollars to five of his colleagues.

Tay allegedly conducted an unauthorised raid with them at a forested area off Seletar Road on 24th January this year.

During the raid, Tay, who’s attached to Ang Mo Kio North Neighbourhood Police Centre, seized contraband cigarettes, mobile phones and a wallet containing a stack of six 50 dollar notes.

He allegedly wanted to keep the seized items and that’s why he tried to distribute the cash to his colleagues, so that they would turn a blind eye to his actions.

However, one of them refused to accept the money.

Tay has claimed trial and will engage a counsel.

If convicted of bribery, he could be jailed a maximum of five years and fined up to 100 thousand dollars on each charge.

Meanwhile, 36-year old Nazir Ali Khan was charged with conspiring with another Police Officer to make a false claim at Clementi Police Divisional Headquarters in April last year.

Nazir and 31-year old Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid allegedly tried to get 1000 dollars cash, which was kept as lost and found property at the headquarters.

It’s believed they had planned to share the money once they got hold of it.

Abdul Aziz had allegedly attempted to cheat an administrative officer at the headquarters by claiming he was the rightful owner of the cash.

He also accused of lying to an Assistant Superintendent, claiming he was a vending machine technician who had lost the money in the Ang Mo Kio area on 1
st April.

Abdul Aziz allegedly told ASP Roy Shafiq Aw that he found out the money was at the headquarters through his friend, Nazir, who’s from Bedok Police Division.

If convicted of cheating, the men could be jailed up to ten years and fined.
