The Society for the Physically Disabled Charity Show is back for its second year.
The show on 6 December is being held in conjuction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Organisers are hoping to raise 2.8 million dollars this year, lower than the target of 3.5 million dollars the previous round in 2007.
President of the Society for the Physically Disabled, Ms Yong Yong is optimistic that despite recent skepticism surrounding charitable organisations, the public is still keen to donate.
" I believe that we have a public that is sufficiently mature to be able to differentiate the issue. We are targeting to raise 2.8 million because it is our policy to raise funds only for what we need and not for more. The target we set was set more in lieu of the poor economic outlook and our understanding that our donors also are facing a poor or a soft economy and that they have also themselves giving to other charitable causes."
MediaCorp celebrities will perform together with members from the Society in the 3-hour show next Sunday.
Bryan Wong, who is one of the celebrities involved, intends to paint holding a paintbrush in the mouth.
"Once you stick the brush into your mouth it is really entirely up to balance and keep yourself still and not move and actually draw. The whole task for me is to come up with the drawing in 2.5 hours and hopefully it is something that is really presentable. " |
