20 Dec 2009

Police have arrested a 39-year old man believed to be involved in loan sharking activities.

A resident living at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 spotted the suspect loitering suspiciously at the void deck of her block of flats at around 10pm yesterday.

She called the authorities and officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrived shortly afterwards.

They spotted the suspect at a nearby supermarket but he tried to flee when he saw them.

The officers gave a chase and arrested him.

They also recovered a mobile phone which the suspect tried to discard during the chase - and it contained the addresses of possible debtors.

The suspect will be charged in court tomorrow.

If convicted, first time offenders could be jailed a maximum of two years and fined up to $200 ,000.
