In English football news,
A playoff to decide England's 4th Champions League spot was ruled out last night, following a meeting with top officials from the Premier League clubs.
The proposal which surfaced last month, would have involved the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th-placed clubs, playing off to decide who went into the Champions League qualifying round.
Under the current system, the top 2 clubs in the Premier League qualify for the Champions League group stages and the teams finishing 3rd and 4th, will enter the qualifying round.
But Premier League CEO Richard Scudamore said, there just wasn't enough of support from the club chairmen. |
