In local football action,
French newcomers Etoile FC, with only 4 weeks of playing time in the S-league, have gone to win their very 1st championship title here.
Last night in front of 2,800 fans at the Jalan Besar Stadium, Etoile scored a 3-1 victory over an under-strength Woodlands Wellington side in the League Cup final.
It's the 2nd straight year, that the League Cup has gone to yet another foreign club.
Coming back from a goal down, skipper Mathias Verschave scored the equaliser just after the break.
And Woodlands had the chance to take the lead again, but Abdelhadi Laakard ballooned his attempt from the penalty spot.
That allowed the French to score 2 more, en route to winning the Cup and $20,000 in prize money.
And as runnersup, the Woodies take home $10,000, while $5,000 went to Sengkang Punggol FC after their 2-1 victory over Gombak United, in the fight for 3rd place.
And coming up this Thursday, the Woodlands Rams will travel to Queenstown Stadium and take on Etoile in their very first home game of the S-league season. |
